Critical phenomena in gravitational collapse

摘要 (Abstract): 

        Critical collapse in spherical symmetry is studied in double-null coordinates with numerical and approximate analytic approaches. The amplitude of the scalar field is about 0.6. The ratio between the amplitude and the period of the scalar field is about 0.15~0.2. Approximate analytic information on the metric components and the scalar field is obtained, and the metric components can be well fit by a typical log-periodic formula in complex science. The spacetime near the center is found to be nearly conformally flat. The Belinskii, Khalatnikov, and Lifshitz conjecture is examined in critical collapse, and the results show that the dynamics near the center is not described by the Kasner solution. It is conjectured that the scalar field in critical collapse may be a special standing wave.
