Galaxy Evolution via 2D spectroscopy

摘要 (Abstract):

Formation and evolution of galaxies remains one of the most fundamental aspects of astrophysical studies. The structures of galaxies contain abundant information on their evolution. With the advent of integral field spectrographs (IFSs), 2D spectroscopic observations are now able to study the structures of galaxies via many physical parameters in great detail. In this talk, I will briefly mention these studies. I will also introduce the basic elements of an IFS, their technical challenges, and my personal perspective of the future of this type of instruments.

 

主讲人简介 (Speaker's CV):

Dr. Lei Hao is a research scientist and professoratthe Shanghai Astronomical Observatory of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). She received her PhD in Astronomy from Princeton University in 2004. She then worked as a research associate at Cornell University from 2004 to 2008, and the University of Texas at Austin from 2008 to 2009. She has been working at Shanghai Astronomical Observatory since 2009, supportedby the “Bairen”(one-hundred-talent) program of Chinese Academy of Sciences. Her main research interests are the formation and evolution of normal and active galaxies. She is an export in the multi-wavelength spectral properties of galaxies and statistical studies of large galaxy samples. She has published almost 60 refereed papers in various international journals, which have been cited for over 5000 times. Dr. Lei Hao is a key member in many international astronomical collaborations, including the Chinese LOT (Large Optical-infrared Telescope , as the co-chair of the Science Advisory Committee), and the international TMT (Thirty Meter Telescope, as a SAC member). In the meantime, she is the PI of the “China Lijiang IFU” project, which is about building an IFU instrument for the 2.4-meter telescope in Lijiang, Yunnan Province.
