Introduction to the Astronomy Team
Astronomy is a discipline that studies the vast universe and the structures and evolutions of celestial bodies at various scales within the cosmic space. It is an ancient basic science. With the rapid development of astronomical observation technologies and computing capabilities, astronomy is showing vigorous vitality. The astronomy team of the School of Physics and Astronomy will aim at the international frontiers of astronomical research, face the major strategic needs of the country, and serve the national and regional economic and social development. It will build a large astronomical research platform and strive to improve the level and influence of scientific research work. The team currently has 12 professors under the One-Hundred Talent Program, 15 associate professors, and in addition, there are 15 full-time researchers and post-doctoral fellows.
The main research directions of the team include:
- Galactic Cosmology (large-scale structure of the universe, galaxy formation and evolution, dark matter and dark energy, the early universe, primordial black holes, primordial gravitational waves, etc.);
- Stellar and Planetary Sciences (stellar physics, astrochemistry, interstellar medium, planetary science, etc.);
- High-Energy Astrophysics (physics of compact stars, cosmic rays, multi-messenger astronomy of gravitational waves, etc.);
- Astronomical Technical Methods (astronomical instruments, Antarctic astronomy, space science, celestial mechanics and astrometry, etc.).
